Ghana Tourism Authority Calls for More Competitive Tourism Industry

GTA Calls for Stronger Partnerships to Build a Competitive and Sustainable Tourism Industry

The Ghana Tourism Authority has called for stronger collaboration among government, tourism businesses, operators and other stakeholders to build a world class and sustainable tourism industry.

The call was made during the 2026 Tourism and Hospitality Awards in the Oti Region, held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders: The Black Star Experience.”

According to the Ghana Tourism Authority, continued investment in human capital, innovation, technology and service delivery will be essential to improving Ghana’s tourism competitiveness.

The Authority also stressed the importance of professionally packaging and promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage, hospitality and tourism assets.

Tourism practitioners, including hoteliers, tour operators, tour guides, restaurateurs, attractions managers, transport operators and event organisers, were recognised for their contributions to the sector.

The Oti Region also has significant potential to develop distinctive tourism experiences capable of attracting visitors from Ghana and international markets.

The GTA’s message highlights an important direction for Ghana’s tourism industry: attracting visitors is only part of the equation. The quality of the visitor experience, innovation, sustainability and the economic benefits created for local communities are equally important.
